At around 23:58, state troopers were called to the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 from the 175-mile marker due to a two-vehicle collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 2005 Toyota SUV, was a 25-year-old man from Colorado Springs who was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. The second vehicle, a Honda SUV, had two men and two women in it at the time of the collision. The driver and passengers were aged 17, the CSP said.

CSP Veteran Trooper Gary Cutler said two passengers in the second vehicle were taken to hospital for their injuries but were later pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda was hospitalized in serious condition. The fourth passenger in the vehicle had unknown injuries, the CSP said.

The 25-year-old driver, who was slightly injured, was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The CSP said the motorway had been closed as officers investigated the crash.

The identity of the victims has not been released.
